The background shows a
mother and daughter.
Clown, the mother (on the
left) is a blue merle. She's a
great dog. The black and
white girl to the right is her
daughter, Rosie, also an
outstanding dog.
Border collies are widely regarded as the most intelligent of all dog breeds. They are extremely obedient
and can be easily trained to enthusiastically respond to a variety of voice and hand signals. They are very, very genetically sound,
athletic and healthy. Border collies possess these wonderful qualities because for centuries, sheep farmers in the rugged border
counties of Scotland and England bred only the very smartest, fittest dogs for sheep herding work in the rugged hills. The dogs had to
be willing to follow complex commands to the letter from a great distance  and had to be very physically fit to do the work and
withstand the harsh weather.  They also had to be smart enough to think things through on their own in many situations.
Today,
working lines of border collies still possess all of these wonderful qualities. However, there are now some lines of AKC and other
border collies that are no longer being bred as working animals. Some health and temperament issues are showing up in some of
these animals, and some are losing the "edge" on their amazing intelligence and herding ability.  If you want a true border collie, GET
A PUP FROM A WORKING LINE (just my two cents)!
My line of border collies is great for herding work or sheep dog trials because they have great herding instincts. However, they are
also great as companion animals because dogs from this line are not high strung and hyperactive or too driven to "work" to fit into a
home setting. They are extremely physically fit and agile and can handle sustained physical activity when needed. However, when the
day's activities are finished, they are happy to just lie at your feet or cuddle you on the couch (if you allow that!) for hours.
When I
established this line, I carefully selected dogs that had intelligence, herding instinct and great companion animal potential because I
wanted them to be both working dogs on my ranch and my companions/hiking/beach/etc. dogs!
They are WONDERFUL companion
animals. I couldn't imagine life without them. They accompany me everywhere, herd my sheep, keep coyotes away from my livestock
warn me if strangers are approaching and even help me train my wolfdogs. And, last but not least, they cuddle me on the couch at
the end of a long day!
If you haven't worked with this breed before, you are in for a real treat. They are amazingly intelligent, trainable and controllable off
lead. I like to say that they are born just about 3/4 trained! They are very attentive and hang on your every word. In fact, the number of
words that they are capable of learning the meanings of is sometimes quite astounding. They tend to think before they act and are
naturally "polite" if that makes any sense. They analyze situations and are always trying to make sense of what is going on around
them or what you expect from them. They are a joy to work with and the more you expect from them and the more you involve them
in your day to day activities, the happier they are!

PRICES OF BORDER COLLIE PUPS: Pups are generally $700.00 to $900.00 each, depending on
individual variations in coloring, markings, herding ability, sex etc.

THREE PICS OF A WORKING GIRL!

This is Annie, an adult  pup from one of Clown and Sam's past litters that
is now competing in sheep dog trials! These pics of her working sheep
were taken by
Cathy Modica and I'm thankful to have the opportunity
to include her fine work on this site. Annie's owners are doing a great job
with her and have given her a wonderful, stimulating life. Border collies
love to have a job to do!
Here are pictures of Clown and Sam's past litter of ten (one day old in the
first three photos and exactly 2 weeks old in the photo where they are nursing on Clown).
These pups are now in
homes, but scroll down for
available pups!

These pups are all in their new, loving homes and I'm getting great reports
from their proud, new owners, but if you scroll down you can see the
currently available pups from the same parents.
They're here! Clown's new litter of  8 new pups  was born on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006! Clown
was bred to a very nice, black and white, rough coated male named Sam.
There are four males (one
black and white, two blue merle and one tri-merle) and four females (one black and white, one tricolor,
one blue merle and one tri-merle).
All of the pups will be rough coated (the classic border collie look)
like their parents and older siblings. This is a repeat of the breeding that gave me my wonderful Rosie
(the black and white female in various pics on this site) and Annie, the girl in the photos working the
sheep. These pups will be wonderful dogs! The border collie pups on the Wildcat Canyon Ranch home
page are also from a past Sam and Clown litter. ALL of their pups have turned out to be outstanding
dogs.

Here are more current pics of the available pups (taken at 6 weeks of age).
